A Curlew Sandpiper was at Tyttenhanger. A rather overdue Herts tick. With not much to do this afternoon, I went to see it. Earlier in the garden, I had another tick in the form of Southern Hawker.

Garden, Botanic Gardens, and Fowlmere
Highlights on another scorching day were: A Sparrowhawk low over the garden carrying prey, seen whilst having my morning cup of team outside before work; a party of recently fledged Goldcrests in the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge at lunchtime; six Lapwings and a Little Egret at Fowlmere this evening; a Hobby flew low over the garden (below roof-top level) chasing Swifts at dusk.

Hobby
A Hobby over the garden tonight chasing ‘our’ Swifts. Young were heard in the roof for the first time last night.

Poppies
A shocking picture taken using a mobile phone from a moving train of the magnificent Poppy display just outside of Foxton.

Fowlmere
Another hot one. But not too hot at Fowlmere. Did see a Hobby chasing a Swift for a few minutes. It gave up and went back to collecting Dragonflies.

Bridled Tern
A dash up to Seahouses in Northumberland to get the 6:00am ferry across to the Farne Islands to catch a Bridled Tern that roosted overnight on Inner Farne. Got it, along with the usual Puffins, Guillemots (including Bridled), and so on.
Some nearby apparent Roseate Terns were too distant for me to count.
